For the second year running, the team at The Corner Shop, hosted a post-Valentine's art exhibition.
The huge success of this humorous albeit cynical lil' art show (in a flower shop in Linden) last February, returns and is aptly named "Still Heartless" for 2015.
Looking for the sense of humour in the "downside" of love, we asked Johannesburg and Pretoria-based artists to explore their own anti-Valentine sentiments and produce work expressing what it means to them: love lost, love unrequited, love unworthy.
When we approached our artists regarding this year's show we simply reminded them that through the ages, art in all it's forms has been fuelled by the misery of a broken heart. It's " the coldest story ever told" ( Kanye West- heartless )
The message is clear -as expressed by Ozzy, Barbra, Donna or Anita: no more tears!
New artworks by Sybrandt Wiechers, Debbie Cloete, Gordon Froud, Yannis John Generalis, Belinda Leontsinis, David and Carolyn Batzofin, Mandi Friedman, Moira MacMurray, Izanne Wiid, Marina Louw, Retha Buitendach, Sally Rumball & George Holloway participated this year. Basically any artist who was willing to make art about their misery and depression.
